Pantry Donation/Hunger Awareness Month!

Description

When the bell rings on Friday afternoon, some of our students leave their classrooms unsure if they’ll have enough to eat over the weekend. Many of these children rely on Kilmer Middle School’s free and reduced meal program during the school week to meet their nutritional needs. To ensure these students have access to food over the weekend, Kilmer Middle School established the Kilmer Food Pantry in partnership with the Kilmer PTA.

September is Hunger Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about food insecurity in our community. In recognition of this important cause, the Kilmer Food Pantry is doubling down on its efforts to support students in need. The Pantry provides weekend food packs to help bridge the gap, ensuring students stay nourished until school resumes on Monday. Over time, we’ve expanded our services to offer not only meals but also school supplies, warm coats, and new socks during the winter months. All distributions are handled discreetly to respect the privacy of our students and their families.

❓How You Can Help
A child may not openly share that they’re experiencing food insecurity, but with careful observation, you might notice signs that indicate they need help. If you suspect a student is struggling with food access, please reach out to the school counselor or social worker.
